General Information
The best letters of recommendation come from people who know your work, are familiar with your capabilities, and can judge your personal qualities. Ideally, you should choose letter writers with whom you have taken multiple courses and regularly visited during office hours.
I’m happy to write recommendation letters for law school, medical school, master’s programs, internships, fellowships, and full-time employment for students with a B or above in at least one of my courses. For doctoral programs, I am happy to provide a recommendation letter to any student who has passed one of my courses with a grade of A- or better. Lower grades do not rule out a letter, but they should cause you to consider whether I am situated to make the best assessment of your academic potential. As a courtesy, you should ask me for a letter of recommendation at least three weeks before you need it.
